Tobler formulated what is<br>know as the First Law of Geography: &#8216;Everything is related to<br>everything else, but near things are more related than distant<br>things.&#8217;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>from Scientific American article:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maps are overviews, \u201csurveys of a space of possibilities,\u201d that<br>lay out a variety of possible paths.
